Tasman Venture is locally owned and operated by Lloyd and Robyn Burgess. Along with their three daughters, they moved to Hervey Bay to acquire the Tasman Venture business in 1980. It had been involved in commercial whale watching since it’s conception in 1987. Hard work, passion and 21 whale watch seasons later, the business has won numerous awards including Hervey Bay’s Business Award for Contribution to Tourism in 2010, and operates the most amazing tours Hervey Bay has to offer. They are famous for going the extra mile to make sure you will have an extroidinary experience.
On board you will meet some very dedicated and passionate crew. Vicki Neville has worked 14 whale watch seasons on the Tasman Venture and has now been joined by her husband Stuart as part of the team. Vicki’s passion are the humpback whales and for this has won numerous awards for her conservation work, including Fraser Coast Environmentalist of the Year, IFAW’s Animal Welfare Campaigner Award and Fraser Coast Volunteer of the Year Award. She also founded National Whale Day in 2006 which is celebrated each year in recognition of the humpback’s plight.
Stuart has many years of marine experience including professional and charter fishing, whale watching and Fraser Island guiding and is now a Master 4 skipper.
Carolena Gillies is also an extremely experienced whale watching and Fraser Island guide with 9 years experience, who loves the whales and the marine environment. She can also speak 4 languages which is an added bonus for our international guests, interpretating all her knowledge and information to them.
Tasman Venture can boast that they have the most experinced team of the fleet including owner/skipper Lloyd at the helm and Robyn looking after the administration side of things.
